Only a short distance from Sigiriya Rock with some incredible views from the pool looking up at the fortress. But is this 5* hotel known as Hotel Sigiriya really worth staying at, on your visit to Sigiriya and Dambulla?

Hotel Sigiriya is located in central Sri Lanka, close to Dambulla, with the UNESCO World Heritage site of Sigiriya Rock casting its shadows over the hotel. This beautiful ecofriendly hotel, is certainly in touch with nature, with bird trails, jungle treks, and elephant watching, to keep you entertained whilst visiting Sigiriya.

Location

In a prime location, with incredible views of the 8^th Wonder of the World. Sigiriya is located within the cultural triangle and about 162km from Sri Lanka’s only International Airport near Colombo.

Wake up early to avoid the crowds and take the short walk to Sigiriya Rock fortress, before making the climb to the top.

Dambulla caves are a short drive from Hotel Sigiriya, along with other major tourist spots within the cultural triangle.

Perfect for you travelers who need a little tranquility, while still on an adventure.

We were offered exceptional service throughout our stay at Hotel Sigiriya.

Check in and out was smooth, with the porters taking our luggage to our room, so we could relax after a tiring day on the road.

If you’re looking for a little bit of history of Sri Lanka and the area of Sigiriya, then the staff are on hand at any given time.

Rooms at Hotel Sigiriya

Our room at Hotel Sigiriya was clean, tidy and a good size.

We had a double room with private bathroom and double doors out into the small area to sit and relax.

Standard amenities come with the room, such as a compact seating area, with a TV and we had a small complementary selection of fruits and chocolate, which definitely went down well on our stay.

Coffee and tea making facilities available in our room and a good-sized cupboard to store and hang our belongings.

There is space for an additional bed, for families with children.

The rooms are lovely, quiet and relaxing.

Food and drinks

Only the one restaurant at the hotel, this offers buffet meals.

Don’t worry, you will get a choice of dishes to enjoy and you can eat as much as you like.

Choose between savory and sweet dishes, from traditional Sri Lankan food, to different western dishes.

If you’re staying a couple of nights, then have a mixture of cuisine.

The buffet is nicely set out, with easy-to-read dish labels, so you can choose what you want to eat.

Don’t worry, if you don’t want to eat in the restaurant, you can easily order room service, enjoy your meal with a couple of drinks at the bar, or beside the pool under the night sky, with Sigiriya Rock in the distance.

The food is exceptional.

Price

For a night’s stay in a 5* hotel, the price is definitely reasonable, starting at $80.00 for a superior room.

While this is a little over our budget normally for us budget travelers, however in our opinion it was worth it, especially with convenience of Sigiriya Rock, the views are amazing, the rooms are lovely and relaxing, while the food is great.

Yes, it is possible to find budget friendly hotels in the area, but for us, this was a memorable stay.

Cleanliness

The cleanliness throughout Hotel Sigiriya was to a very high standard, all communal areas, and facilities were spotless, clean, tidy and dust free.

Our room, was to a very high standard, no awful smells and the bed was freshly made daily, and fresh towels provided when needed.

Whether you want to relax by the pool, stay fit while travelling, or be entertained in their small games area, Hotel Sigiriya has it covered:

Pool

Opening times: 7:30am – 9pm

After a long morning climbing to the top of Sigiriya Rock, or taking a trip to Dambulla Caves, you’ll need time to relax by the awesome pool.

The pool area offers, relaxing deck chairs to lay back and soak up the Sri Lankan sun. Take a dip in the pool and cool off while you look up to the towering rock that overlooks the pool area.

You’ll definitely want to make the most of the pool after a long day sightseeing.

Eco Centre

Learn more about wildlife and culture, through documentaries, short films and books within the Eco Centre

Fitness Centre

Now most luxury hotels will have a gym or centre where you can work out while on holiday. Sadly, there isn’t a gym, but if you want to play a competitive sport, then badminton and volleyball, will be ideal.

Not only could you stay fit, but a great chance to entertain the family in a competitive way.

Entertainment

If badminton or volleyball is too much for you in the Sri Lankan heat, then why not learn how to play carom. Carom is found in Sri Lanka and throughout Asia. It is a square board, with four holes at each corner. The idea is to flick one counter against the other, in the attempt to get it into the hole (pockets) on the opposite side of the board to you.

It sounds similar to pool or snooker, but on a much smaller scale.

A chess board and dart board are available too. With the hotel running competitions occasionally.

Hotel Sigiriya has everything you may need and more from a hotel, it certainly ticks all the right boxes, and one we would recommend to anyone looking to visit Sri Lanka. We enjoyed our stay, and hope that you enjoy the experience just as much as we did.
