There are a number of large luxury hotels to stay at on your visit to Sri Lanka. So choosing the one that is best suited for your needs, can often become a difficult choice! To make things somewhat easier for you, we have stayed at Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo, and this is our review.
Cinnamon Grand is located in Colombo 3, and forms part of the Cinnamon Hotels and Resort in Sri Lanka and the Maldives. Cinnamon Grand was the flagship hotel in Colombo, until Cinnamon Hotels and Resorts took on 2 further hotels in Colombo. This beautiful hotel, is a 5* luxury hotel based in the heart of Colombo, so without further ado, we give you our honest review on Cinnamon Grand Hotel:
Table of Contents
Room
Our room was of a very good size, and to a very high standard. The room consisted of a double bed, wardrobe, TV, tea and coffee making facilities, mini bar, desk and chair, and a chair and table.
The bathroom, has a bath and a shower, and standard bathroom amenities. What we really like about the bathroom is the option of a bath or a shower, we love to have a bath, but we also love the choice of having a shower too. In our opinion it is important to have a bath in the hotel room.
Food and Drink
The buffet lunch was outstanding, with a selection of savoury dishes including traditional Sri Lankan food such as egg hoppers, and plain hoppers, along with hot and cold dishes, and of course desserts. We have eaten at Cinnamon Grand’s sister Hotel Cinnamon Lakeside, and the food at the Cinnamon Grand is so much better. The food is more flavourful, fresh, with a good selection for different tastes.
We ordered room service for our evening meal, and again the service was quick, and the food tasted amazing.
There about 10 different cafés and restaurants at Cinnamon Grand, all ranging in different cuisines, from Chinese, Western food, to a traditional Sri Lankan restaurant.
Facilities at Cinnamon Grand Hotel
Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo, is abundant with things to let you relax during the day, and have a few drinks in the evening.
Here are just some of the facilities:
Pool
Open: 6am – 6pm
One of the things we look for when booking a stay at a hotel, is if it has a swimming pool. Cinnamon Grand has 2 swimming pools. One is located near Breeze Bar, whilst the second is a more relaxing pool on the rooftop near the spa.
We have only used the pool near the bar, and in our opinion, it is good. It has a shallow section but also a deeper section. There is a lovely small area to lay back and relax on the sun loungers while soaking up the sun.
Whilst this is a great pool, we felt the area was quite small. Unfortunately we didn’t explore the roof top pool so cant give our review on this.
Tennis Courts
Open: 7am – 9pm
If you are keen on competitive sport, and keeping fit, then hiring the tennis court will definitely keep you on your toes.
Gym
Open: 7am – 9pm
A great way to keep fit and healthy is by regularly visiting the gym. A well equipped gym, pack with everything you need to stay fit. But they don’t have just the one gym, they have 2. After a hard work out, what better way than finishing it off in the steam room and sauna.
Spa
Open: 24 hours
The spa at Cinnamon Grand in Colombo offers a variety of different spa treatments, to relax you into the holiday spirit.
Shopping
You don’t have to go far for some retail therapy with Crescat Shopping Centre connected to Cinnamon Grand Hotel. A two-story shopping centre, connected to Cinnamon Grand, has all the designer shops, boutiques and even a food court and a supermarket.
Location
Cinnamon Grand is in a good location, the tourist attractions such as Colombo National Museum, Old Parliament, and the Old Dutch Hospital are a short walk away. There are many Buddhist Temples, Kovils, Churches and Mosques to really dive into the Colombo culture.
Service
The services provided by all staff members at Cinnamon Grand was amazing. Everyone we encountered was always friendly, helpful, and had a big smile on their face. Check in was smooth, and very quick, whilst the bar staff or the restaurant staff were always visible should we require their service.
Price
In our opinion the price to stay at Cinnamon Lakeside is reasonable! This is a 5* hotel, with great rooms, facilities, friendly and helpful staff, so you would expect the price to be reflective of this. Depending on when you plan to visit, you can expect a standard room to be priced between £80.00 + per night.
Cleanliness
The room was made out to the highest of standards. With the bed freshly made, the bathroom kept clean and tidy, ready for the next guest to arrive.
All of the facilities from the pool and changing rooms, to the restaurants and communal areas where spotless. It is clear that it is kept clean and tidy day and night.
We would highly recommend this as one of the top hotels to stay at whilst in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
