The USA is one enormous country, with 50 states to explore. But how do you go about exploring this gigantic country? That’s simple, you create a bucket list of the places you want to visit in the USA and tick them off as you go along. This is exactly what we are doing!
We have visited the US on 2 occasions, twice to New York, just because it is so incredibly amazing. But also ventured to a few other places, namely Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. We don’t just want to stop there; we want to explore more that the USA has to offer. So, we have created our bucket list of places we want to visit in USA.
To help you get inspiration on where to travel in the USA, why don’t you use our Bucket List of the USA, and we can tick each place off as we go.

Bucket List USA
We have selected the places that we both want to visit in the USA:
Doesn’t the Route 66 road trip sound so incredible to do. It certainly does to us and on our next visit, this is the plan.
It should take us about 2 weeks, depending on how many stops we make along the way. Most of the classic Route 66 has now become an interstate, or runs parallel to the interstate. But we would try to follow as much of the classic road as possible.
You’ll cover 8 states and 2400 miles, but least you would have covered a small percentage on your first trip.
We would start at Chicago, stopping at diners, small ghost towns, drive-in cinema, giant statues and attractions at the side of the road, just to name a few.
This would be one adventure we could never miss.
Road trips are an amazing way to see some of the country, another road trip we would love to cover would be the East Coast from New York to Washington DC
The windy city as it can sometimes get referred as, but it is the starting point of the classic Route 66.
Just before our road trip on Route 66 we can’t pass off exploring this lovely city, stuffed with incredible architecture, lovely lake views, museums and more.
Chicago is not shy when it comes to providing the fellow tourist with food. You could gobble down a range of food from around the world, most of it unhealthy, but when you’re on holiday, what is a couple of stone on your return home!
Great Smoky Mountain National Park
We love getting out into the great outdoors, exploring the wildlife, nature and scenery around us. What better way to explore the outdoors, than visiting the Great Smoky Mountain National Park, for a hike.
Covering about 800-sq miles of Appalachian woodland, with wild bear, deer, and flora and fauna to admire. We are up for an adventure but we wouldn’t want to come face to face with a wild bear mind.
What we would look forward to, when exploring and hiking the Great Smokies, are the amazing-coloured plant life, gushing waterfalls, exhilarating white water rafting or kayaking and we might come face to face with a real native Indian.

We’ve heard that Miami has some amazing beaches to sit back relax and take in the sunshine they get most of the year. So, after a long road trip along Route 66, or exploring the Great Smoky Mountains, all we’ll want to do is lay back on a lovely sandy beach soaking up the sun.
It isn’t just about the beaches in Miami, but they do play a large part. Street art and Latin music is very popular in the area. We would love to visit Wynwood in Miami to admire the many murals on the surrounding walls, or how about taking up a Latin dance class.
While we are travelling the USA, we would love to spend a weekend in Charleston SC on our way down to Miami.
Yellow Stone National Park
The top spot here would have to be exploring the colourful hot springs. The steam slowly floating up into the sky, while the water below giving off those incredible rainbow colours, now that would be a picture.
Yellow Stone National Park is the oldest in the USA, with wildlife in abundance. If you love wildlife, then you could see the bear, wolves, elks and bison just to name a few.
Hiking would be the best way to see the wildlife, scenery and of course those incredible hot springs.
The continental divide provides unbelievable mountain peaks, pretty lakes and a great outdoor adventure just waiting to be explored.
As you can probably tell, we love hiking and adventure, which is exactly why the Rocky Mountains are on our bucket list of places to visit in the USA. If hiking isn’t your thing, then why not try your hand at cycling, or skiing, or just wildlife watching. What animals did you spot on your adventure?
The Rocky Mountains are not far from Yellow Stone National Park, making it ideal to explore both at the same time.

You never know we might get a glimpse of a Hollywood star or a few! Well, we can only but wish. Failing that, we can always visit the Hollywood sign and wander down the Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, walking the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
A multi-cultural city such as Los Angeles offers great food, history and architecture to experience along the way. Little Tokyo, sounds interesting to visit, with delicious food shops and restaurants, but museums such as the Japanese American National Museum, to learn about history during World War II and immigration.
The classic Route 66 passes through Los Angeles on its way to Santa Monica, allowing us to tick off another place from our Bucket List of USA.
New Orleans is a multicultural city, which is reflected in its cuisine. Just the thought of walking down the street, stopping at each café, restaurant or eating establishment eating different food from around the world as we go.
Once we have filled our bellies with food, it would be time to party, with different festivals celebrated nearly every week. One that stands out is the Mardi Gras. The street filled with bright colours of carnival.
San Francisco has to be one of the most GBTQ+ friendly places to visit in the USA. Making the San Francisco Pride one we wouldn’t want to miss.
It isn’t just a LGBTQ+ friendly place, but is one of the popular tourist destinations, this could be due to its cooler summers, the most magnificent architecture, and of course the iconic landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars and Alcatraz.
We’re definitely excited about walking across Golden Gate Bridge and exploring Alcatraz.

Yosemite National Park
A World Heritage Site, but more famous for its mountains, waterfalls and glaciers. As you can probably tell, we love wildlife and nature. So, getting out into Yosemite National Park, will be just as important as visiting the large cities and beaches.
With many trails to follow in Yosemite National Park, from easy to a more challenging hikes up the mountain and even an overnight stay, making this ideal for any traveller to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city to a quiet, relaxed approach.
We have covered a wide variety of large cities, outdoor adventures and beach travel in our Bucket List of Places to visit in the USA. We could include so many more, such as the small ghost towns, but we would hope to do these, as we complete many road trips around the USA.
Yes, our intention is to road trip around the USA, this is a much better way to explore a country. However, not everyone has the time to go on long road trips. But this doesn’t stop you from doing small bitesize road trips.
We have already covered New York, Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon, which we would highly recommend and should be included in your Bucket List for the USA.
